Design for the Marc and Sharon
Hagle Hall Dedication

Purdue University dedicated Marc and Sharon Hagle Hall during Homecoming Weekend in October of 2022. Marc and Sharon Hagle Hall is a new home for Purdue Bands & Orchestras. The four-story building is named for Marc (ECE’71, MS M’72) and Sharon Hagle in honor of their $10 million leadership gift.

The dedication included multiple pieces including custom promotional photography, unique environmental signage, print design, digital design, and coordination between marketing and special events staff, as well as university stakeholders, staff, and students, to make this day special for the donors as well as the Purdue community.

Under the Creative Direction of Cathy Swick, my role of Art Director was to create all print, digital, and environmental needs for the dedication. This included large-scale environmental signage on the building, a 14 page program, invitation, a custom banner, a custom rug, and digital promotional collateral.

The aesthetic of the event was based on the patterning on the Purdue Drum, the largest drum in the world, as well as the musical notes, and words of Purdue University's fight song, Hail Purdue!

My favorite part of this project was being able to vectorize Hail Purdue! and put it on the environmental signage of the building-- so many students realized that the secret "message" on the building was Hail Purdue!

Below you will find pictures of all designed pieces, as well as mockups and pictures of the print pieces.

Print Design, Digital and
Environmental Design

Leading up to the event, customized print design was created to promote the event to donors. The design incorporated the patterning from The Purdue Big Bass Drum, the “world’s largest drum.” Textures from the building were included as well, including the physical music notes, lyrics, and sheet music to “Hail Purdue,” Purdue’s fight song, as well as imagery taken of students in Bands & Orchestras.

To make the event special for the Hagles, we created custom environmental signage for and around the building. This including large-scale window clings that incorporated the main melody line the “Hail Purdue,” as well as additional branded signs depicting the drum. A very special piece included a custom one-of-a-kind rug and banner that depicted the Purdue Bass Drum. This was created to make the stage resemble the Purdue Bass Drum. Screen dresses and way finding signage also special-event space decorated the area.
