In March of 2020, the coronavirus threat became a tangible reality for most universities, as America had to adapt to the new realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, St. Mary's College of Maryland had to pivot its communication strategy in its entirety, including our web, social, and print communications.

St. Mary’s College has successfully reopened for students and faculty, and has stayed open until the end of the semester. This is in part because of our resilient community and our ideological strength in the St. Mary’s Way -- Our Way.

The following graphics represent some of the Environmental, Print, and Digital design I contributed to this effort. A special shout out to Dan Pindell for his photography skills on some of the signage photos.

In addition to the environmental signage, we did a comprehensive brand update to our youtube channel. Over the course of two weeks during the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdown, I redesigned over 100 custom youtube thumbnails. The result of this was a 400% increase in our Youtube web traffic and 30,536 views (a 112% increase from previous years). Below is a snapshot of the branding work done.

Right before the reopening, the marketing team got together and created a full length video that created a tone to the reopening. It utilized our School's ethos, "The St. Mary's Way" which stresses individual responsibility in order to create a safe and inclusive community. I provided art direction and design elements to the video.

The video can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNjEiOUY2xc

In addition the video, all on-campus faculty, staff, and students received a branded PPE kit. Within this kit was a small postcard which echoed the branding of the video, and included the entire text of the St. Mary's Way. Below shows a mockup of the piece (in addition to some of our instagram designs)

The Mulberry Tree, Fall 2020 Edition

Illustration Series by Keely Houk and Erin Moran

My design team was tasked with creating illustrations for the Fall 2020 edition of The Mulberry Tree. Between Erin and myself, we conceptualized and illustrated a series of pieces for the magazine.

I provided the art & editorial direction for these series of illustrations. Through use of color and light, we juxtaposed the College community's stress and isolation caused by the pandemic, with the hope and tight-knit nature of our community which kept the spirit of The St. Mary's Way (our Ethos) alive.

We employed a uniform style across the illustrations (which was particularly difficult given that we both have different styles) in order to create a holistic approach throughout the magazine.
